The Best Seafood and Mediterranean Dishes in Valletta at Palazzo Preca

Fresh seafood produce

Malta is an island surrounded by the sea, and at Palazzo Preca, that sea has always been at the heart of everything we do. From the moment I opened the doors of this restaurant on Strait Street, fresh fish and Mediterranean flavours have defined our kitchen and continue to be what our guests come back for time and again.

A Seafood and Mediterranean Restaurant at Heart

Our menu is a celebration of the finest that Maltese waters and the broader Mediterranean have to offer. Every fish dish we serve is guided by what is freshest, what is seasonal, and what the sea provides on any given day. It is an approach rooted in respect for our island, our fishermen, and the ingredients that make Maltese cuisine so unique.

For those who love the sea in all its forms, there is always something worth returning for at Palazzo Preca.

Our Local Red Prawns are sautéed in garlic, white wine and tomato, served on a bed of rice and full of the bold, honest flavours that define coastal Maltese cooking. The Pan Fried Octopus, prepared with white wine, garlic, butter, and soft herbs, is one of the dishes our guests speak about most. Our Pan Seared Seabass is filleted and served with prawns and a thermidor sauce, while the Seabass al Sale is line caught and cooked whole in sea salt, a beautifully simple technique that lets the fish speak entirely for itself.

  • resh from the sea, finished with a tropical twist. Scallops, prawns, tomato, onion, celery, and pass
  • Friday Special Prawn Bisque Risotto Sapphire raw prawns, stracciatella & samphire. Special Dish
  • Pan-seared salmon with crispy soft-shell crab, pak choi, and a fragrant miso and lemongrass velouté.

For those who want to experience the sea in its fullest expression, our Shellfish Platter à la Palazzo Preca brings together oyster, prawns, mussels, razor clams, scallop, fried calamari, soft shell crab, octopus, and clams on one generous and celebratory plate. And for something a little more indulgent, our Lobster Thermidor, baked with onions, mustard, cheese, and cream, is a dish that never fails to impress.

We also offer a Catch of the Day, guided entirely by what arrives fresh each morning. It is our most honest dish and one of our most beloved.

A Nod to Lampuki Season

Every year on the 15th of August, Malta's coastal towns come alive with the arrival of lampuki season, a tradition that runs through to the end of December and represents one of the most cherished moments in the Maltese culinary calendar. The lampuki, known in English as dolphin fish or mahi-mahi, has been a staple on Maltese tables for generations.

For those visiting Malta during this time of year, tasting lampuki is an experience not to be missed. As an island restaurant deeply rooted in Maltese tradition, we embrace the season and all it represents.

Fresh, Seasonal and Always from the Heart

At Palazzo Preca, the sea is not just an ingredient. It is a way of thinking about food. Every dish on our menu reflects a genuine love of what this island produces and a deep respect for the traditions that have shaped Maltese cuisine for centuries.

Nestled inside a beautifully restored 16th century palazzo on Strait Street in the heart of Valletta, we welcome you to come and taste the Mediterranean as it was meant to be enjoyed.
